Spin the Globe

A geography game: spin the globe, name the country.

Help

Spin the Globe is a geography game for iPhone: spin a desk globe, see where the pin lands, and name the country. It's free, with no ads and no in-app purchases, and it speaks English, Spanish and German. There's also a version for the browser.

How to play

  1. Tap Spin the globe. When it stops, a pin marks a country.
  2. Name it: pick one of four choices, or switch to typing in the settings.
  3. You get three tries. The first try scores 3 points, the second 2, the third 1.
  4. After a wrong guess, the game tells you how far away the answer is, and in which direction.
  5. A game is ten rounds, so the best possible score is 30.
  6. Between rounds, drag the globe to look around, pinch to zoom, and tap a country to see its name.

Questions

I can't hear any sound.

The game follows your iPhone's silent mode, so it can play alongside your music. Turn silent mode off, and check that Sound is on in the game's settings (the slider button at the top).

How do I change the language?

In the game's settings.

A small country never comes up.

Very small countries and territories are on the map, but they're never the answer: they'd be hard to make out under the pin.

Where do the borders come from?

The map is made with Natural Earth data, which draws borders as they are held in practice.
